Pt Willunga – Worst Night Ever to Photograph.

Yes the crazy tafe lecturer in me got the students out in the middle of winter on a rough night with high tide and no sunset to photograph one of South Australia’s most photographed spots.

It was windy, and i got sand in my eyes but thought i would put up the shots here so you can check them out. It was an experiment for the students in slow shutter speeds, so these images were about 15 – 30 seconds long. I am sure my students did better at this than me!!

I don’t get to brag that often and i am really excitied that I won this Years SA Category for Portrait Photographer of 2009.

Congrats to David Evans who won the Landscape and Self Commisioned categories and took out SA Photographer of the Year. Congrats to Mark Zed and Shona Henderson for taking out the rest of the categories and also congrats to Kerin Burford who just beat me for hightest scoring print. Also congrats to Leanne King and Kerin Burford as joint runner up for the portrait category.

One of my students in 2008 did her essay on Edward Steichen and re-introduced him to me as a great of the photography masters. The Pond Moonlight (sold for $2600000 US in 2006) is a very famous photograph and can be a great source of inspiration to landscape photographers everywhere.

His Fashion Photography was beautiful in its execution. Check him out; you will be pleased you did.

The Importance of being part of a network of Photographers

Sorry about the lack of posts, sick kids and away in Tassie! But I am BACK!!

This weeks little chat is about how important networking with other photographers can be. I was in Tassie for the AIPP Fuji Film Break Away. Great speakers –Ian Wilkinson, Greg Hocking, Sorrell Wilby, Bill Henson, and Richard I’anson. Although the speakers themselves were fantastic, it was talking to photographers and hanging out with them that was just as valuable. Most photographers are very isolated as tradespeople, so being able to get together as a group and realise that we are not the only crazy photographer in the world is such a great thing. Getting to talk to photographers about how they deal with the every day photography stuff was great and gave me so many ideas for my own business.
