Weekly Topic Outline:

The weekly topic outline is to be used to help you work through the subject. Try to keep on track and work through the material topic by topic. Ensure you fully understand the topic before you attempt to move on. If you have any questions ask your lecturer. Check of updates on the moodle website.

Topic 1: this week is an overview of what to look for in web sites and what we want In our own web site. You need to work out your point of difference and use it in your web site. Your web site is an extention to your branding so it should look like the rest of your business eg business cards etc.

 Things to do:

Do Chapters 1 and 2 in the xhtmlanddreamweaver8.pdf book. Videos for those chapters are also included in the week 1 folder.

Read and go though the notes at the end of the study guide for week 1

  1. Research: Surf the net and critique web sites. What do you like about them, what don’t you like about them??

Topic 2: Understanding and documenting your web site specifications is a BIG IMPORTANT part of developing an effective web site. You need to understand what your site will be used for and why you need one.

 Things to do:

 

 Do Chapters 3 and 4 in the xhtmlanddreamweaver8.pdf book. Videos for chapter 3 is also included in the week 2 folder.

 

Topic 3: How are you going to get your site seen. In introduction into making your site googleable. What is SEO

Things to do:  

  • Do Chapters 5, 6 and 7  in the xhtmlanddreamweaver8.pdf book.

 Unassessed items:

  1. Planning: You need to work out what colours and logos you will use in your site. You need to think about what information needs to go on to your site. Start working on the Web Site Specification for your own site.

Topic 4: Social Networking – What the???????
